Elementor Shortcode for Modern Events Calendar (MEC) 1.7.0

When using Modern Events Calendar (MEC) with Elementor, you have two main ways to display your events: using standard shortcodes generated by the plugin or using a specialized "Shortcode Builder" addon.

1. Using Standard Shortcodes

This is the most common method. You create a "Skin" (design) in the MEC settings, and it gives you a shortcode to paste into Elementor.

How to generate: 1. Go to M.E. Calendar > Shortcodes in your WordPress dashboard.

2. Click Add New, select your preferred "Skin" (e.g., Monthly View, List View, or Carousel), and configure your filters (categories, locations, etc.).

3. Copy the generated code, which looks like [MEC id="123"].

How to add to Elementor:

Open your page in Elementor.

Search for the Shortcode widget.

Paste your MEC ID code into the widget box.

2. MEC Elementor Shortcode Builder (Recommended)

If you want to design the calendar inside the Elementor editor rather than jumping back and forth to the MEC settings, Webnus (the developer) offers an Elementor Shortcode Builder Addon.

Key Benefit: It adds a dedicated MEC Shortcode widget to your Elementor sidebar.

Live Preview: You can change skins, toggle the search bar, and adjust typography or colors while seeing the changes happen in real-time on your page.

Setup Tip: To use this, you must go to Elementor > Settings > General and ensure the "Shortcodes" post type is checked so Elementor can edit them.

3. Important Tips for MEC & Elementor

Avoid the "Shortcode" Widget for Styling: If you just paste a standard shortcode, you cannot style the events (fonts/colors) using Elementor's "Style" tab. You must do that in the MEC > Settings > Styling menu.

Single Event Builder: If you have Elementor Pro, there is also an MEC Elementor Single Builder addon. This allows you to design the actual page for a single event (where the description and "Buy Ticket" button are) using Elementor templates.

Flexbox Compatibility: Ensure Flexbox Container is active in your Elementor settings, as the latest versions of MEC are optimized for this layout.

Troubleshooting

Note: If your shortcode is showing as plain text or not loading, ensure that you have activated the MEC license. Some advanced skins and shortcode features are locked in the Lite version and will only render if the Pro version is active.
